Move into an era free from limitations and reliance on traditional energy sources with the Aerocene App. Embark on a journey toward a conscientious realignment with the environment, the planet, and the intricate web of life, moving beyond human-centered perspectives.
Virtual Flights allow users to utilize the app as a guiding tool, mapping out expeditions in the Aerocene era. Drifting alongside virtual aerosolar sculptures, flight paths are crafted using up-to-the-minute data sourced from 16-day wind speed forecasts across various altitudes. An online exhibition of Aeroglyphs - ethereal signatures in the sky - traces the routes of the 7976 (and growing) virtual flights that have transpired on the Aerocene App.
Augmented Reality excursions present a fresh approach to experiencing the atmosphere, immersing participants in visualizing the invisible imprints left by an aerosolar sculpture in flight. Visitors can explore a real spot where a journey occurred to witness an augmented reality Aeroglyph structure formed by a custom trajectory constructed with the Aerocene Backpack, or choose to transpose a flight to a different location of their preference. Real Flights are documented within an interactive global repository. The Aerocene community, established by artist Tomás Saraceno in 2015, has introduced numerous aerosolar sculptures elevated solely by solar and wind power. Through the Aerocene app, users can engage with over 103 tethered flights, 16 free flights, and 8 manned Aerocene flights that have traversed more than 43 countries.
Conceived by Aerocene community creator and participant Tomás Saraceno, the Aerocene app originated in 2012 during his Visiting Artist residency at the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology (CAST). Developed in collaboration with a diverse team of scientists from the Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences Department (EAPS) at MIT, the Aerocene app is an ever-evolving artistic endeavor and is continuously enhanced by the Aerocene Foundation in partnership with Studio Tomás Saraceno.
